The KoreFit™ is a piece of fitness equipment originally designed to amplify aerobic workouts, and most recently found a new home at Shriners Hospitals for Children® - Chicago. Lightweight and portable, the KoreFit™ creates a dynamic environment ideal for challenging the sensory and motor processes associated with postural control and balance. Manufactured completely in the United States, the system is comprised of twin air-filled bladders mounted on a molded plastic base. Four different valve settings modulate the rate of air flow from one side to the other creating limitless support surface conditions. The KoreFit's™ unique design accommodates for all levels of functional ability and addresses patient-specific asymmetries that exist secondary to neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disease processes. Strengthening activities of the trunk, upper and lower extremities and functional activity training can also be incorporated using resistance band attachments to promote independence in every-day mobility challenges such as: reaching, walking, and stair negotiation.
Through the incredible generosity of Brian and Coleen Gelber of Winnetka, IL and Shawn Babiarz, Founder and President of KoreExtreme, the Rehabilitation Departments of 18 hospitals within the Shriners Hospitals for Children® system have received a donation of a KoreFit™. The equipment will be implemented into the care of children with balance deficits secondary to musclo skeletal or neuromuscular conditions.
